Le Cap d’agde. The naturist capital of the world.
An entire village given over to the nudist life-style. At peak season there will be 35,000 people stripping off to enjoy the Mediterranean sun on the celebrated golden beaches and blue seas of the South of France, dine in the many restaurants, shop (naked) in the supermarkets, visit the hairdresser’s (naked, of course), or laze about at the poolside or on the sands.
Yep, everything this side of that inlet is the celebrated Centre Naturiste. And that’s just the main part. The camping area extends far beyond and the naturist beach goes on for miles.
No surprise then that the celebrated Junior Miss Pageant series was filmed there. The first pageants at Cap d’Agde were the delightful Mini Miss contests that were regular features of Cap life every summer. Then came the annual Junior Miss Pageants that we came to know and love, first on VHS, later on DVD.
NC6 (no, I’ve no idea how the nomenclature works either), also known variously as Pageant 6 or Contest 6, is the first part of the 1999 Junior Miss Pageant offering, and features the build up to the delightful NC7.
NC6 open with a shot of the poolside where the filming takes place. Then we are introduced to some of the contestants, who go through a warm up catwalk show in their “textile” outfits. While the dialogue of those involved in nearly all French the storyline, such as it is, is easy to follow.
After the textile show it’s time to cool down at the poolside and get the pep talk about the main show from the admin staff.
Then it’s group walk-throughs for the main show, where the contestants get to ask their own questions and make sure everything is clear for the main event.
Of course, not everyone is interested in watching.
Under the ever-shining Mediterranean sun refreshments are soon required.
Then it’s time for some pre-event photo-shoots for friends and family.
Finally it’s all back to the contestant’s enclosure to freshen up ready for the main event. Which of course is Miss Junior Pageant 1999 Part 2, also known as NC7. Watch out for a review in the near future.
Verdict: If you like a storyline or English-language commentary with your viewing then try Peter Dietrich.
But as a classic documentary of the family naturist lifetsyle, or just some enjoyable entertainment to accompany a glass of wine and let yourself dream about your next naturist vacation, this is ideal.
Viewing quality of very good, but not excellent. Bear in mind the age of this production. It’s fine on screens up to 32″ but for anything larger you’ll likely experience loss of definition.
Overall score: 8/10
